The next BRICS summit will discuss a restructuring of the global political and economic architecture

A senior South African official said the BRICS summit to be hosted by the country this year will discuss how to reshape the global political, economic and financial architecture.

South Africa’s 2023 BRICS Presidency will have one theme: BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutual Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development and Inclusive Multilateralism, Deputy Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Alvin Botes made the remarks at the country’s parliament in Cape Town, a port city on the southwest coast of South Africa.

“One of the issues that will be discussed in the BRICS is how to restructure the global political, economic and financial architecture to make it more balanced, representative, inclusive and equitable,” Botes said.

As the only African country in the BRICS and G20, South Africa continues to put the African continent and the Global South on the agenda of these forums, Botes said.

The BRICS consist of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. South Africa becomes the BRICS president in 2023, taking over from China.
